Frank Lloyd was born into a non-musical family in Cornwall in 1952. He took up the trombone in his school brass band at the age of thirteen, mailny to get out of Friday afternoon lessons! On leaving school at the age of fifteen he joined the Royal Marines Band Service and was subsequently changed to the French horn. he left the services in 1975 to start a course at the Royal Academy of Music studying under Ifor James. This 3 year course only lasted 3 months as Frank was offered the post of Principal Horn in the Scottish National Orchestra. He has performed with the RPO, the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, the Nash Ensemble and the English Chamber Orchestra. He has also been professor of Horn at both the Guildhall and Trinity Schools of Music.
